Police Sergeant Exam GuideThe police sergeant exam is an important part of moving up in the ranks of the police force. A lot of these tests put on by the police department are actually quite different from regular tests. They're designed specifically to measure your aptitude, but rather your ability or natural instinct to what it takes to be a sergeant. Basically the exam is trying to pull the answers out of you that might destroy this promotion for you. They just want to make sure that you're the best possible candidate for the job. And can you blame them? This is the police sergeant exam and you are accountable to the public.I've talked to a number of people that have failed this test and I was actually surprised at what they said. Things like "I can't believe I put that answer", "what was a thinking?", etc. What occurred to me was that they weren't fully reading the questions and ended up answering it wrong. When they look it in retrospect and in a calm environment, they actually read the question. What people don't get is that in a pressure situation they tend to cut corners. Your brain will look at only key words in the question and not the whole thing. The idea is that if it looks at just a few words it can figure out the question on its own. That's the reality of the situation. You think you're reading the questions, but you're really not. When it comes to the police sergeant exam I suggest reading the question multiple times. Stay calm during the whole test, so you can at least make sure you're reading the questions instead of your brain cutting corners. |
